- Dr Luke Evans MP cut the ribbon at Royal Mail’s new Hinckley Delivery Office
- It is the first to bear King Charles III’s new cruciform on its signage
- Dr Luke met local posties and visited the yard to see the office’s electric vehicles
Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Hinckley and Bosworth, has formally opened Royal Mail’s newest Delivery Office in Hinckley. The new office is the first Royal Mail location to bear King Charles III’s new cruciform on its signage.
The new office is much more accessible than its predecessor and includes disabled facilities and one-level working. There is also a new, more comfortable welfare area for staff. To make the office more environmentally friendly, energy saving lights and EV charging points have been installed.
After opening the new office, Dr Luke was shown around to learn more about what it takes to deliver letters and parcels in his constituency of Hinckley and Bosworth. He heard about how Royal Mail is adapting to the growth in parcel volumes and the decline in letters. Whilst an increase in online shopping means greater demand for larger parcels, letter volumes have fallen from 20bn a year at their peak to just 6.7bn in 2024.
Dr Luke also visited the Delivery Office’s yard to see some of its growing fleet of electric vehicles, which will number 30 in the coming weeks. Across the UK, Royal Mail is adding 2,100 electric vans to its fleet over the next year, as part of plans to achieve Net-Zero carbon emissions by 2040. The company already has the largest electric delivery fleet in the UK, and the new additions will increase it to 7,100 vans.
Craig Lockwood, Customer Operations Manager for Hinckley, said: “We really enjoyed hosting Dr Luke at our brand-new Delivery Office, to show him how Royal Mail is transforming and modernising to meet our posties’ and our customers’ changing needs. It is also an honour to be the first Royal Mail office in the country to have the King’s cruciform on our sign.”
Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Hinckley and Bosworth, said: “Well done to everyone for getting this project over the line! It was great to see the new Royal Mail sorting office in Sketchley Meadows in Burbage.
“Thank you to the team for welcoming me down, talking through how they process our mail and how they are changing their local fleet to be all electric by the start of 2025.
“It’s a pleasure to see such a dedicated workforce, and now they have a working environment fit for the future!”
