Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Hinckley and Bosworth, has been named as one of Movember UK’s Men’s Health Champions in 2025 for his work on the Men’s Health Strategy and raising awareness of male suicide.

Movember is the UK’s leading men’s health charity. They support men and boys year-round, particularly with mental health and suicide prevention, but became a household name by encouraging men to grow a moustache in November and raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.

Dr Luke, a GP before he became an MP, has been working on issues impacting men and boys, from body image on social media to steroid abuse and depression. Dr Luke has been proactively pushing the consultation for the public on the Men's Health Strategy, making sure men could have their say on the Strategy before it was published in November.

Dr Luke, who is Shadow Minister with responsibility for Primary Care and Mental Health, has also been raising awareness of male suicide rates. Speaking in Parliament on world suicide prevention day, his speech went viral on social media, getting thousands of likes and comments with people opening up about their situation.

He has highlighted figures which show that suicide is the leading cause of death for men under 50. With 14 men dying by suicide every day, the rate is three times higher than that for women.

Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Hinckley and Bosworth, said “What a surprise to be named a Movember UK Men's Health Champion for 2025! I’m shocked, as I am simply shining a light on something that drastically needs attention.

“As a GP, I saw first-hand how men consulted in different ways, could often be embarrassed about raising an issue, or only sought medical help after advice from their wife, mother or daughter.

“So I've been working to put a spotlight on men and boys' issues from suicide, steroid use and body image, to educational achievement and how men see their role in modern-day society.

“It's an honour to be recognised for my part in driving forward change, and I am committed to continuing to make the case. After all, this is not men ‘or’ women, it is men 'and' women.”
