Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Hinckley and Bosworth, and the local NHS have worked together to secure further funding for a £10 million Day Case Unit at Hinckley Hospital which will enable residents to undergo surgical procedures locally. This brings the total investment in the Hinckley site to over 34 million pounds since Dr Evans was elected in 2019.

Speciality services that are expected to be delivered at the Day Case Unit include Breast Care, General Surgery, Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedic Surgery, Pain Management, Plastic Surgery, Podiatric Surgery, Renal Access Surgery, Urology and Vascular Surgery.

This follows a £24.6m investment for a Community Diagnostic Centre, also on Mount Road. The testing unit, which will bring capacity for thousands of MRI and CT scans, X-Rays, ultrasounds and blood tests to Hinckley, is currently under construction and due to open early 2025.

The two projects bring investment into Hinckley’s healthcare infrastructure to over £34 million since 2019, which Dr Luke Evans MP has welcomed as “fantastic news for people and families across our community who will no longer have to travel to Leicester or Nuneaton for tests, scans and surgical procedures.”

The Department for Health and Social Care approved a business case proposal for funding of over £7m for a Day Case Unit at Hinckley & District Hospital on Mount Road, with NHS England contributing an additional £3m to complete the project.

Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Hinckley and Bosworth, said “I’m delighted to have been able to work with our local NHS to secure funding for a £10m Day Case Unit in Hinckley.

“I know how important healthcare is to people across our community, so when I was first elected in 2019 I asked the NHS for their assessment of healthcare provision in Hinckley and Bosworth.

“After a review of our area the NHS said we needed a Community Diagnostic Centre and a Day Case Unit, and I’m so proud to have worked with them to secure over £34 million worth of investment for these two important healthcare facilities!

“I know how much this means to people across Hinckley and Bosworth who will have access to scans, tests and procedures locally.”

Now that funding has been secured, it is over to the local NHS who will be submitting plans to Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council for planning permission in the coming weeks.
