Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Hinckley and Bosworth, and Stuart Andrew MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, visited Barwell Football Club on Saturday 1st February to award national recognition to the Club’s dedicated volunteers.
The two MPs spent time with volunteers who have devoted countless weekends to the Club and presented them with Platinum Certificates of Appreciation for their commitment to ensuring each game runs smoothly and fans enjoy their time at the Club.
They toured the grounds with Barwell FC’s Chairman, David Laing, and Chairman of the Southern Football League, David Martin, and discussed Barwell’s history, the community spirit and the coming season.
Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Hinckley and Bosworth, said “It was a real pleasure to see the team at Barwell Football Club and welcome the Shadow Sports Secretary to our area to see first-hand the community spirit that helps clubs like Barwell to succeed.
“Volunteers are the bedrock of grassroots football clubs and give their time to the Club and community to keep the ball rolling, as it were, each week!
“Thank you to the team for the warm welcome, it was great to watch the game and speak to the Club about their exciting plans for the future. If you’re looking for ways to support your local club, please do speak with them about volunteering – I’m sure they’d welcome any time you can give.”
Stuart Andrew MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, said “Thank you Dr Luke Evans and Pitching In for inviting me to visit Barwell Football Club in Leicestershire.
“Volunteers are essential to sports, making events like this possible through their dedication. It's important to recognise their contributions. If you're interested in getting involved, consider reaching out to local sports clubs, as they welcome your assistance. Your support can truly make a difference!”
David Martin, Chairman of the Southern Football League, said “It was a really positive visit that highlighted to the local MPs the impact a club like Barwell FC has on its community and the fantastic support available to clubs through the Volunteer Hub and Community Grants made possible by Entain through the Pitching In programme.”
